In the end I was a bit disappointed with the way the story progressed. Like many of the stories in our genre fiction, the women become rather just like men in their use of power. There's quite an awful female rampage scene near the end which involves a mass rape, and also an interesting twist on how the Power is used to artificially induce erections, which I found a Bit difficult to read, probably inducing for me a similar reaction to a woman reading about rape.
I suspect it's inherently difficult to portray a difference bwteeen feminine and masculine exercise of power, which is probably why I enjoy the beginning parts of transitions much more than the ends.
Still, it was an an enjoyable and mainly successful effort by a relatively mainstream writer, and I hope it leads to more of this kind.
