Images do take up bandwidth, but nowaday's that's not a big problem as most hosting packages offer large bandwidth allocations or unlimited, unlimited normally limits you in some other way, e.g processing power or consecutive number of people allowed on the site at any one time but for a story site you should not hit the limits, that normally comes if you add forums and other site features.
